How to plan a seating chart people are happy with
Start with the fixed points
Place the dance floor, DJ, bar, and head table first — everything else arranges itself around them. Keep older guests away from the speakers and the couple visible from most seats.
Seat by shared context, not obligation
People enjoy tables where they share something to talk about — university friends, colleagues, the neighborhood crew. A table of strangers who are all "good people" is still a table of strangers.
Rounds of 8 are the sweet spot
Ten fits, but the table gets loud and cross-table conversation dies. Eight guests on a 60-inch round keeps everyone in one conversation. Banquet tables feel more communal but limit you to neighbors.
Do the chart late, but not last-minute
Wait until most RSVPs are in (2–3 weeks out), then do it in one sitting. This tool autosaves in your browser, so you can tweak as the stragglers reply.

How does the seating chart maker work?
Pick a layout preset (or start with a blank room), drag tables and fixtures like the dance floor and bar into place, then paste in your guest list. Tap a guest, tap a seat, and they’re placed — or use auto-seat to fill every open chair at once. When you’re done, download the plan as an image, print it, or copy the table-by-table list.
Is it really free? Do I need an account?
Completely free, no account, no email. The chart is saved automatically in your browser’s local storage, so you can close the tab and come back later on the same device. Nothing is uploaded to any server.
Does it work for events other than weddings?
Yes. The presets cover wedding receptions, banquets and galas, conferences, birthday parties, and cocktail parties — and the blank room lets you lay out anything else. Tables, seat counts, and fixtures are all fully adjustable.
How many guests should sit at each table?
Eight on a 60-inch round is the classic answer: full enough to feel lively, small enough for one shared conversation. Ten works if space is tight. Long banquet tables typically seat 8–10 comfortably, with conversation limited to the guests seated nearby.
When should we make the seating chart?
Start about two to three weeks before the event, once most RSVPs are in. Do a first pass in one sitting, then adjust as the last replies arrive — your plan is autosaved in the browser, so edits take seconds.
Can I print the seating chart or share it with my venue?
Yes. Download a high-resolution PNG of the floor plan (great for emailing your venue or coordinator), print it directly, or copy a text version of the table assignments to paste into an email, spreadsheet, or escort-card order.
